Rocio in St Albans

Hello! My name is Rocío. I am from Spain and I have been for two months in St Albans. I think that this is the best way to enjoy improving your English. I have had a lovely time with all of them (at a musical in London with Lucy, many times visiting London with Peter, different trips with Kate and friends). They are very friendly people and I really get on well with all of them. Also they live only 20 minutes by train to London!! So it is easy to go into London when you want. The thing I most enjoyed was that I met many people from different countries and I learnt a lot of different lifestyles and cultures. I consider that it was the best thing that I did in my life and hope to keep in touch with them. I am sure that it is going to help me with my professional future.

Anabel in England

This was a good experience for me, to know the different customs, food and traditions of this country.

Before I came to the UK I thought my English would improve hugely in two weeks.  Now I realise I have to self study at home.  I will use BBC World Service Learning English.

Each Wednesday I went to a traditional pub, and on Thursdays I went to the gym with Sally, a friend of Kate’s.  I also visited many different places in London

Studying English in St Albans

My name is Hajime Takahashi (Haji) and I’m a Marine Engineer from Yokohama, Japan and working in SingaporeIt was a week holiday of my job and I stayed my host family’s home in St Albans.  It was my first time in Europe.  Kate and Peter (my host parents) took me around the town and explained me about its history and culture, also gave me many chances to meet and talk with their family and friends in some parties, theatre, church, pub, London, Cambridge…etc.  They were very kind to listen to my English and talk friendly with me.  Everything I saw in England made me really interested and excited. I love British English, British culture, British people, and everything in the UK. I’d like to say ‘Thank you very much for Kate and Peter’s great hospitality’.

Deep into English

I spent 2 weeks in Peter and Kate’s` house in St Albans. It   was the best weeks  that I have ever had in England! When I had to come here, I was a little bit nervous, because it was my 1st time living with family. But these people are very friendly . They become your family and they always take care of you.

Their house is situated about 10 minutes walk to centre, not too far away. My room was very comfortable and nice.  The food was really good and delicious every day.  I don`t remember any days when I didn`t want to taste it.  This family always tries to make your living here- like at home.

For this short time I learnt  so many new things. Kate tried to give me as much knowledge of English as she can, Peter tried to show me England in the past. He is a perfect guide!  With him we have been to London couple of times and also were walking in St Albans. He is like a book full of interesting facts and information!  Also they showed me typical English theatre.  It was really emotional play with their daughter playing in it.  I`m a  foreign speaker, but  I understood everything.  Kate showed me all things what you could do in England. She showed me school, theatre, people,  she explained me some culture things .They  showed me England in another way, in a way, that I have never saw it before!  I want to say thank you to them!  They gave me an opportunity to work hard and achieve more than I thought.

Living Learning English in St. Albans. We are Natalia and Nikita. We are from Moscow, from Russia. I’m 39 and Nikita is 10. We lived in St. Albans with a beautiful family, in a comfortable house, for one week. We had lessons with Kate and walks with Peter. We visited St. Michael’s school, the Roman museum and the cathedral. St. Albans is beautiful. We went to a concert and met Kate and Peter’s friends in the pub. We walked around Cambridge and saw a horrible clock (see the photo). Also we went to a Fireworks show with our friends. We grew fond of St. Albans and Kate’s family. Bye, bye and thank you Kate and Peter! 🙂
