Wonderful week in London

I really enjoyed my Living Learning English course. My teacher, Janet Fearn, and her family were amazing. She helped me to improve my speaking fluency and vocabulary range, and we also went to the theatre and the British Museum. I think the experience was worth it and I learnt a lot. Thank you so much for everything!

Gill, teacher Brighton

Teacher, Gill Stephens, has a great experience and she really knows to adapt lessons and teacher methods to the needs to the student. She has motivated me in my learning process and in adition to the day-to-day lessons, she has been able to detect my limitations and boundaries. She helped me to work out a teaching training in the long term. I am absolutely delighted for her help. She is, certainly, the best English teacher that I have ever had.

Thanks to Gill I have achieved to improve my English skills and to gain more self confidence. I am very satisfied with the progress made. Excellent!

My stay in England

I liked the lessons in the morning, but I think that the lessons start quite early. I think that the lessons are similar in Spain, but a really important difference is that in England the people do the classes in English.

The last week I went to the Zoo and I really enjoyed this, it was very good. I don’t have any complaints about this activity. The Zoo in Spain is really similar and the only difference is that in England you need to talk in English.

Three days ago we went to the Black Country Museum and I liked this, but the only complaint is that in the museum there are a lot of schools and I don’t like to be in a museum or other place with a lot of people. I don’t know if in Spain we have this type of museums, but I think that the Black Country Museum was one of the best museums I saw.

The last week and two days ago I went to the Go Karting Circuit and I think that this was the best activity, I really enjoyed it. I don’t have any complaints. These karts don’t have any difference between the karts that I have in Spain, and the only difference is the language.

Four days ago I went to the Severn Valley Railway and it was very good, I have no complaints. The difference is that in Spain I think that we don’t have similar old trains.

Yesterday I visited Birmingham and I liked it but there were a lot of people. I think that Birmingham is very similar to Madrid because there are a lot of people and also a lot of shops.

Every day we ate the dinner with the family but the last week we did a barbeque and had guests that are Janette’s daughter Rachel and her boyfriend Javier. In this barbeque we ate a lot of things like meat, chicken and vegetables. I really enjoyed this and in Spain when we do a barbeque we also call friends and put the same things on the barbeque.

I really enjoyed my stay in England.

Meet my teacher Annie from Yeovil!

I’m Ewa and I have recently done a course for teachers in Yeovil, with my lovely host teacher Annie. What I would like to highlight is the fact that Annie is always there for you to listen carefully and plan accordingly to your needs. What’s more, Annie will make sure you have a lot of exposure to the language by creating plenty of opportunities for the hands-on interaction with her family, friends and neighbours. Great and enriching experience!

Tockwith-worth a visit!

As a couple we had a wonderful stay in Tockwith close to York with our teachers Lois and Nick.

Every day, we learned English for four hours in a 1 to 1 situation which was very encouraging and effective. In the evenings we had interesting activities like:

  • excursions, e.g. to the picturesque York or exploring the nice countryside around the nearby villages;
  • sports activities like cycling and bowling;
  • or a nice dinner at our teachers home or an Indian restaurant.

On one day we even started the early morning with swimming at the local swimming pool.

It was just a one week stay but it was filled with versatile learning and several physical activities that it felt like two weeks. We really enjoyed our time with our teachers and were very sad when we had to leave.

Ellie in Bacup

My name is Ellie and I live in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I have been a teacher of English for over thirty years. Because I started to feel a little less confident speaking English, I took a 1:1 course with teacher Ruud and his lovely wife Diane, in Bacup, near Manchester. Their house, situated in parklike surroundings, is ideal for enjoying nice walks in the countryside. It is also very close to Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool. I stayed in their comfortable attic room. I had a choice of two bathrooms, one with bath, the other with shower. Because I wanted to brush up my communication skills, learn a lot of new vocabulary (especial colloquial language) as well as improve my pronunciation, this intensive course was ideal for me. Ruud is a very patient, creative and flexible teacher. Because Ruud and his wife have a very active social life, I met lots of interesting people, so I had ample opportunity to practise what we dealt with during our lessons. We made use of a wide range of materials such as newspaper articles, dvd’s, cd’s etc.. Besides being very interesting the lessons were great fun. Ruud’s wife Diane is a great cook; the food was plentiful and delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the excursions to Liverpool (Magical Mystery Tour), Manchester and Leeds, the visits to museums but also the pubs we visited, the walks in the surrounding countryside, the visit to Haworth (home of Brontë sisters), to the charming town of Hebden Bridge, etc., accompanied by Ruud, and very often Diane and one or two of their friends. For 8 days I lived a very English life, and consequently, became very fluent in the English language. I can thoroughly recommend the experience! I am sure I will go back sometime, and repeat the experience!

Refresher course in Bristol

My name is Sissi and I am from Italy. I March I made a two-week refresher course for teachers with Lesley in Bristol. This 1:1 course was perfect for my requirements which were mainly to brush up my communication skill, vocabulary and use of English for the classroom as well as make my English sound more natural. Lesley is a very experienced, flexible and energetic teacher who made me feel at home during our intensive lessons which included a wide range of materials such as podcasts,films, recents interviews or newspaper articles. Her sense of humour and outgoing personality made our lessons not only interesting but lively and fun. The time with her and her lovel y family made me remember why I’m so fond of the English people and culture. In fact, one of the highlights of my stay were the family dinners. The food, in fact, was delicious, the conversatons going on even better. In my comfortable, cosy room I found a vast choice of books, magazines as well as DVDs (with many more to choose from in the house) which gave me further opportunity to listen to or read English. Also during our excursions to Bath or the seaside I enjoyed myself enormously with my witty tourist guide Lesley. So, full immersion into English, which was the reason why I chose a 1:1 course, was highly successful. The only thing I regret is that I haven’t been able to see more of the surrounding coutryside. That’s why I’ll come back soon!
